Task Group No. 467: Survey of Image Quality Assessment and Quality Control Practices for Cone-Beam CT (TG467)

Activities

This task group will conduct a comprehensive survey to characterize current practices in image quality (IQ) assessment and quality control (QC) for cone-beam CT (CBCT). The results will inform the planning of a future task group focused on benchmarking CBCT IQ using phantom studies. Specifically, the survey will:

  1. Collect information from participating sites regarding existing CBCT systems and site-specific clinical scan protocols across a representative range of applications, including interventional radiology, diagnostic imaging, and radiation therapy.
  2. Document manufacturer-specific QC practices, IQ/QC phantoms, and IQ metrics for CBCT systems currently used in clinical practice.
  3. Publish the TG’s findings, including a summary of current practices and a critical discussion of the utility, consistency, and limitations of existing approaches to CBCT IQ assessment and QC.

The results of this survey will serve as the foundation for a future Task Group focused on benchmarking CBCT image quality in phantom studies.
