A Guide to Resources and Opportunities
This web page is a guide to the available resources.
Information on all AAPM programs and activities is available on the web at www.aapm.org. This web site is open to all but some specific programs and resources are restricted to AAPM Members and require an AAPM Member username and password.
A list of Low or Middle-Income Nations recognized by AAPM is posted at AAPM Recognized Low or Middle-Income Nations.

Resources Available to Medical Physicists in Developing Countries
Educational Resources
AAPM/IOMP Library Program
The AAPM/IOMP Library Program serves as a resource for medical physics and related communities in developing countries.
AAPM Virtual Library
The web-based Virtual Library contains many of the Continuing Education Courses presented at the AAPM Annual Meetings. Log into the Virtual Library and view the courses.
AAPM Reports
The reports of the many AAPM Groups are available to all.
Other Resources
AAPM/IOMP Equipment Donation Program
The Equipment Donation Sub-Committee serves the joint partnership between AAPM and IOMP and works to ensure that available, working-order equipment is put to good use at clinics or educational institutions in low- and middle-income countries. Request or donate equipment.
The AAPM Journal Medical Physics Online
The flagship AAPM journal, Medical Physics, is published both in printed and online editions. The online edition is generally the most appropriate for international distribution. The Table of Contents and Abstracts are available for viewing by anyone at www.medphys.org. However, a subscription password is required to read the complete articles. Subscriptions to Medical Physics is included with all categories of membership.
The Journal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics (JACMP)
The Journal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics (JACMP) is an open-access journal, which publishes papers that will help clinical medical physicists perform their responsibilities more effectively and efficiently for the increased benefit of the patient. It is available for viewing by anyone at www.jacmp.org.
Membership in AAPM
Membership in AAPM is available to medical physicists in all countries.
There are several classes of AAPM membership, depending on ones qualifications (education and experience). The different membership categories and the application process is described in the New Member Information.
Membership in the British Institute of Radiology (BIR)
AAPM is a partner in the British Institute of Radiology (BIR) World Partner Network
The British Institute of Radiology is a multidisciplinary membership organization which connects professionals within imaging and radiation oncology, and provides you with educational events, publications and online resources. We help you meet your learning and CPD objectives, build your career, provide you with cutting-edge research, become a more active participant in your professional community and thus improve outcomes for patients. Our members exchange ideas, share expertise, gain new perspectives, insight and knowledge.
To join the BIR as a discounted UK/Ireland or International Member, AAPM members login to for details.
AAPM International Educational Programs
- AAPM provides, sponsors, or co-sponsors a variety of educational and training programs in cooperation with medical physics organizations throughout the world.
- Each year the International Scientific
Exchange Program (ISEP) provides Continuing Education courses on both
therapeutic and diagnostic imaging physics in selected Developing Countries.
- The International Training and Research Coordination Subcommittee (ITRCS) is under the International
Educational Activities Committee (IEAC) within the Education Council. Its charge is to facilitate medical physics
training and research opportunities for international medical physicists within AAPM institutions when
requested by national or international medical physics societies.
- The application form for placement at an AAPM institution can be found here.
The international education programs are
administered by the International Educational Activities Committee (IEAC).
