| Activities | To provide a list of critical performance tests to assist the Qualified Medical Physicist (QMP) in establishing and maintaining a safe and effective quality assurance (QA) program for pencil beam scanning (PBS) proton therapy machines. The MPPG charges are analogous to those of MPPG 8.b for linear accelerators but address performance tests and considerations unique to PBS proton therapy machines, including but not limited to: ? Minimum required resources and equipment ? Developing a quality management program for performance tests ? Equipment and detector selection ? Recommended tests and frequency ? Dose per monitor unit (MU) ? Proton energy (range) ? Spot size/shape ? Spot divergence ? Spot delivery constancy ? Mechanical tests ? Image-guidance ? Range shifters and beam modifiers ? Respiratory gating equipment ? Safety ? QMP guidance on tolerance and action levels |
