Activities
  1. Ensure development of comprehensive standardized data categorizations and corresponding nomenclatures representing key data elements and concepts needed to support standardizing data exchange and use for Radiation Oncology.
  2. Coordinate with stakeholder groups to optimize nomenclatures for uniformity and effectiveness addressing practical clinical or research implementations with the objective of finding consensus-based recommendations. Stakeholder groups include: large and small clinics, academic and non-academic centers, professional societies (e.g. ASTRO, AAPM, ESTRO, ABS, IAEA, ICRU), DICOM-WG, IHE-RO, clinical trials groups (e.g. NRG). and manufacturers of clinical systems used in Radiation Oncology.
  3. Coordinate with stakeholder groups within AAPM, advising them of overlaps and seeking mutual solutions where needed.  Stakeholder groups include: CTWG, IPC, TRT, NMSC, BTSC, BDSC, TG-RTO.
  4. Coordinate with stakeholder groups outside of AAPM to develop uniform and effective approaches to common problems with regard to nomenclature. These include: ASTRO, ESTRO, ICRU, IAEA, ABS.
  5. Take an active role in the education of the AAPM and general radiation oncology community regarding standardized categorizations and nomenclatures.
  6. Provide recommendations regarding biomedical informatics aspects of nomenclatures, such as preferred format, enabling software, and software implementations and application to data transmission standards (e.g. HL7-FHIR).
  7. Coordinate the development of AAPM supported nomenclatures in order to minimize redundant efforts.
