A. The International Affairs Committee (IAC) maintains a list of Developing Countries for several reasons. Some of them are listed here:
- The International Affiliate as described in Rules 4.11 is for Medical Physicists residing in developing countries.
- The International Scientific Exchange Program has been traditionally conducted only for the benefits of developing countries.
- The Partner-in-Physics Program was established to assist people from developing countries.
- Through the World Conference on Physics and Sustainable Development, the AAPM has started to provide some educational resources for medical physicists in the developing countries.
B. Procedure for Changing to the Developing Country Status
- The request shall be made by the national medical physicist association of the country or Regional Subcommittee.
- The Regional Subcommittee has the responsibility of providing IAC the recommendation if the country should be considered a developing country based on information obtained by the subcommittee and made available to the subcommittee.
- The Subcommittee should consult the liaison of the country, if the country has one.
- The economic factors to be considered should include the per person GDP, GNP, average salary of a medical physicist (or a person doing the job of a medical physicist), etc..
- The regional subcommittee informs the IAC its decision and provides the relevant information to IAC. The IAC will decide if the change should be made.
C. Procedure for Upgrading from a Developing Country Status
- The request shall be made by the national medical physicist association of the country, or by the regional subcommittee, or a Member of International Affairs Committee familiar with the subject..
