|
RSNA and AAPM each provided $560,000 to support a total of 8 imaging residencies over 2013 - 2017. In 2018 the RSNA Board committed to providing additional support for the imaging physics residencies, at a total of $210,000 over 2020 to 2022, with the understanding that: The residencies supported are in diagnostic medical physics; AAPM will undertake efforts to identify a long-term solution to the shortage of board-certified medical physicists; and RSNA's support for the residencies will be amply publicized. In 2022 the RSNA Board approved a three-year extension of financial support at a total of $210,000 over 2023 to 2025 to fund 6 new imaging physics residency positions, matching AAPM’s designation of $210,000.The RSNA Board requested that the AAPM provide an update in 2024 with the latest workforce report, outcomes of the program, and an update on the long-term sustainability of the program beyond the agreed funding period.
