Policy text

The American Board of Radiology (ABR) Board of Trustees may solicit AAPM to provide candidates for their board. The AAPM shall submit two to three candidates per Medical Physics Trustee position. While the AAPM may recommend candidates, the ABR is not bound to select them as their nominees (see Bylaws of the ABR, Article V, Section 5.3).

Communication, deliberation, and polling will be conducted via electronic media.

  1. Nominations. The Executive Committee as board members will nominate one candidate per position. The President will call for additional nominations from the Board of Directors (Board). Each Board member may nominate up to one candidate per position within two weeks. The President will call for further nominations from the Board if there are insufficient nominees to meet at least three candidates for one position, or at least two candidates per position if more than one position is requested. Each nominee must meet the qualifications for service with the ABR and give their written consent to the nomination to be eligible for a place on the Board poll.
  2. Preparation of the AAPM Board poll. Nominees will be required to provide a statement of interest and qualifications within two weeks. AAPM Headquarters (HQ) shall provide the Board poll and nominee statements and qualifications to each member of the Board.
  3. Board poll and Results. Each Board member has one week to respond to the poll using ranked-choice polling. The Secretary will be responsible for the integrity of the polling process. The nominees ranked highest in the poll will be AAPM’s recommended candidates - three candidates for one position, or two candidates per position if more than one position is requested. The Secretary shall provide the results of the Board poll to the Chair and the President. If the Chair or the President is a nominee, the Secretary shall provide the results to another member of EXCOM.
  4. Notification. The President will notify the Board as to the results of the Board poll. The President will notify the nominees and will ask the candidates to provide any additional information required by the ABR. The President will send a letter notifying the ABR of AAPM's recommended candidates within one week.
  5. Conflict of Interest. To avoid any conflict of interest, any AAPM officer or member of the Board, who becomes a nominee at any time during the process, shall withdraw from further participation in the process except for the right to participate in the poll as a Board member.
  6. Reappointment. If the ABR allows reappointment for a second term, the President shall, by vote of EXCOM, invoke one of the following options:
    1. Submit the name of the sitting representative to the ABR for reappointment.
    2. Invoke the nomination process described above.
