Governance

This policy is to be applied to all new and existing named memorial funds. A named memorial fund is a restricted, non-endowed fund that is (1) named after one or more deceased AAPM members, (2) recommended by a full AAPM member or chapter, and (3) approved by Development Committee or its chair. It provides an avenue for AAPM members, family, friends, colleagues, and others to remember AAPM member(s) by donating to the AAPM Education and Research (E & R) Fund. A named memorial fund is subject to the following terms:

1. At least $5,000 of donations is required to establish a new named memorial fund. Prior to receipt of at least $5,000, contributions received will be kept in the Member Memorial Fund, a holding account.
2. A new named memorial funds will have a sunset date of five years after the establishment of the fund.
3. After the initial sunset date, all monies in a named memorial fund will be transferred into the General E & R Fund, unless at least $15,000 has accumulated in the fund, at which time the sunset date will be extended by an additional five years.
4. After the extended sunset date, all monies in a named memorial fund will be transferred into the General E & R Fund, unless at least $25,000 has been accumulated in the fund, at which time the Development Committee should seek ways to use all or part of these monies to create a permanent memorial to the deceased member. Any monies remaining after the creation of a permanent memorial will be transferred to the General E & R Fund.
5. The names of deceased members who have a named memorial fund established in their honor will be included on a plaque that will be displayed during the Annual Meeting at a suitable location selected by the Development Committee.
6. HQ will review the contributions to the Members Memorial Fund each year to see if cumulative contributions in memory of any individual have met the $5,000 threshold. If so, HQ will arrange to add their name to the plaque.
