Purpose: With the introduction of new electronic portal imaging device (EPID) technologies, evaluation of image quality metrics using a phantom provides a method for comparing the performance of EPIDs. The performances of EPIDs are important since they are an integral part of the daily workflow in a radiation oncology clinic and based on its performance, its role in the clinic could be expanded.

Methods: The LinaTech IVS, Elekta iViewGT, and an aS-1000 were used to acquire 20 images of a PTW QC phantom, respectively. The QC phantom was placed on the couch and aligned at isocenter for imaging on the different panels. The images were exported and analyzed using PTW epidSoft image QA software. The reported metrics were signal linearity, signal to noise ratio, isotropy of signal linearity, geometric isotropy, low contrast resolution, and high contrast resolution. These values were compared between the three EPIDs.

Results: Computed metrics from epidSoft were tabulated and shown to provide similar values between the EPIDs. Low contrast resolution values were of interest and showed that, on average, the LinaTech IVS had values six times greater than the other imagers.

Conclusion: The performance of three commercial EPID imaging panels was quantified and evaluated using the PTW QC Phantom.

Funding Support, Disclosures, and Conflict of Interest: LinaTech IVS system was provided by LinaTech for this study. PTW QC Phantom was provided by PTW for this study. This research was funded in part by CPRIT RP140105 and RP170345.
