Purpose: To develop skull phantom for SRS point dose measurements and end-to-end QA and thigh phantom with bee wax, gypsum and HDPE (high density plastic).
Methods: For the construction of skull phantom a very hard plastic which was identical to original bone was used. The relative density of HDPE used was 1.127g/cc which was equivalent to bone having density 1.92g/cc. Skull was filled bee wax having relative density of 0.958 g/cc. molten wax was poured in the skull so that there was no air gap remains inside and left it to settle down the wax. For making the thigh phantom gypsum replica of original prosthesis was made by making the negative of the original prosthesis and then it was poured in the wax and left for overnight. Gypsum was used for making the replica of bone have the relative density of 2.76g/cc which equivalent to the average relative density of Hip bone in males and females (Average density is 3.3 g/cc). Six patients each of brain and thigh were selected and electron density values were noted down on the eight different location. Out which four were at the bony part and four were at the soft tissues.
Results: The deviation in the value of relative electron density for skull phantom in bones is 0% and in the soft tissue was -6.58%. The percentage deviation in value of relative electron density for femoral head phantom in bones was 0% and in soft tissue was -8.49%.
Conclusion: From this we conclude that we can utilize theses phantom for making patient geometry the theses homemade phantoms were used very well for different dosimetry purposes with the minimum error
