If you have developed a new idea and want to know how to protect and commercialize it, then this is the session for you!
Navigating the complex international intellectual property (IP) landscape, especially in the medical field, can seem like a daunting task. With an understanding of do’s and don’ts and the common pitfalls, you can turn that new idea into a valuable and sustainable asset.
This session will address critical steps you must take as you seek to use the IP to your advantage and will explore the different ways to protect yourself when developing new ideas regardless of whether you work in academia, private practice, or industry.
Learning Objectives:
1. Know the different types of intellectual property (trade secret, copyright, trademark, and patents), including software innovations under patent and copyright law
2. Understand the steps you need to take, and when to take them to prevent losing your IP rights
3. Arm yourself with ideas for monetizing your inventions including how to license them, and what you should be considering if you want to sell your innovation outside the U.S.
4. Realize how various labor & employment agreements may affect your rights to your inventions
