This Memorial Symposium in memory of Robert (Bob) Gorson, a Charter Member of the AAPM, will focus on Radiation Safety in the Medical Center and develop his vision of Radiation Safety in Medicine. The memorial tribute will be presented by Cari Borras, a close friend of Bob's. As the Radiation Protection Program is the basis for the policies and practices of the hospital and staff, the content of these programs includes key elements required by regulatory agencies. The program shall also ensure that all sources of ionizing radiation are used in compliance with the applicable federal and state regulations, and institutional requirements.

Each of the three presentations to follow the tribute will show a different yet comparable approach to developing an effective Radiation Safety Program for either an agreement state or NRC licensed facility. Medical facilities of all sizes must have effective Radiation Safety Programs with examples to be presented from single licensed facilities to a university based Broad Scope License. Radiation Safety Program content to handle both internal and external challenges will be presented.

Learning Objectives:
1. Understand the content requirements for a Radiation Safety Program
2. Understand how to perform a Radiation Safety Audit
3. Understand how to identify and report a Medical Event
4. Understand the requirements for Radioactive Sources Security
