Purpose: Fundamentally, image quality in CBCT, depends on 3 basic factors: image contrast, spatial resolution, and image noise. These factors interact to determine sensitivity and the Visibility of details. In this work an attempt has been made to optimize the reconstruction parameters of Varian truebeam cone beam ct Ver. 2.5.10.0 for multi-responses (spatial resolution, low contrast resolution and noise) using weighed principle component analysis (WPCA) combined with taguchi method.
Methods: Design of experiments (DOE) technique is used to obtain and organize the maximum amount of conclusive information from the minimum amount of experimental run by applying this technique, it is possible to reduce the required time and number of experiments significantly Orthogonal array (OA) of 9 experiments was employed The experiment was carried out with three controllable factors of the reconstruction parameters, each Factor having three levels. These factors are slice thickness (A), filter type (B), and matrix size (C). The tree responses are the tree different image quality parameters (spatial resolution, low contrast resolution and image noise). Measurement on the image quality parameters where done using image Analysis software (image owl) that provides analysis of CBCT DICOM images of the Catphan® phantom
Results: The optimum combination of process parameters has been found for maximum spatial resolution and low contrast resolution and minimum for noise after that it was verified through a confirmation test also ANOVA is carried out for this JMP 13 software was used and it seen that the dominant factors inclosing image quality are the filter type and matrix size and the optimal parameters where sharp filter 1mm slice thickness and 512x512 matrix size.
Conclusion: The WPCA combined with taguchi method provides simple systematic and efficient methodology for evaluating image quality for CBCT study sets and allow as improving adaptive radiotherapy as it matures.
