Symposia are an important part of the AAPM annual meeting each year. These sessions cover a range of formats including invited speakers, panel discussions, and practical workshops on emerging and practical topics. Together, the program of all symposia provides members with valuable opportunities to learn and interact with peers and leaders of the field.
The Program Directors would like your input on possible Symposia for our 67th Annual Meeting & Exhibition, July 27-30, 2025. All AAPM members are encouraged to submit proposals, including members early in their medical physics careers. Symposia cover scientific, educational, and professional aspects of topics relevant to the practice of medical physics, such as:
● Fundamentals and Basic Principles ● Clinical applications ● Practical Medical Physics Issues ● Emerging Applications and Technologies ● Novel Scientific Discoveries ● AI/Data Science ● Informatics ● Pediatric Patients ● Quality Management ● Radiation Safety ● Regulatory and Health Physics
Proposals can be made to one of the following programs:
● THERAPY PROGRAM (Image Guidance in Therapy, Therapeutic Planning, Delivery, Adaptation, Radiation Physics, Radiation Dosimetry, Radiation Biology)
● DIAGNOSTIC AND INTERVENTIONAL IMAGING PROGRAM (Diagnostic and Interventional Medical Physics)
● RADIOPHARMACEUTICALS PROGRAM (Radiopharmaceuticals, Theranostics, Nuclear Medicine)
● ULTRASOUND SPECIALTY PROGRAM (Diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound)
● PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM (Including but not limited to mentoring and leadership skills; business knowledge and personal career development; management and operational practice; diversity, equity, and inclusion; education and teaching methods; medical physics outreach, extended roles, and workforce development)
● TECHNICAL EXHIBIT/VENDOR PROGRAM:
○ Partners in Solutions (PinS) - This Continuing Education approved program offers a unique way for attendees to interact with and learn from our exhibitors. All sessions feature an educational, topic-specific presentation delivered by AAPM members followed by practical, application specific presentations from our vendor partners.
○ Educational Topic-Specific Guided Tours - Guided tours provide a new way for attendees to interact with vendors while earning Continuing Education credits. All sessions begin with an educational presentation provided by AAPM members. Vendors will then provide detailed information about the topic-specific solution(s) they offer. It’s an interesting and fun way to get a comprehensive overview of commercially available solutions to address your clinical needs.
Proposed panels should be diverse (race, gender, institution, discipline, career stage, etc.). We strongly encourage participation of speakers, organizers, and session moderators from underrepresented minorities. Please note that your proposal is meant to serve as a suggested topic of interest, along with a recommended list of speakers.
To submit a session proposal click here. Please respond by October 10, 2024.
The online application will request the following information for proposals:
1. Program (Therapy, Diagnostic/IR, RPT, Professional, Exhibit/Vendor) 2. Type of session (Scientific or Educational) 3. Title 4. General Topic Area (short paragraph; 250 words maximum) ** 5. Is this session proposed by a professional society other than AAPM? 9. Learning Objectives 10. Suggested Speakers and Moderators.
○ No more than one non-AAPM member speaker ○ Preferred no more than one speaker from a given institution ○ Preference for junior-member (i.e., resident or early career) to act as co-moderator

All proposals will be reviewed by the Program Directors, who will make the final selection of topic, content, moderators, and speakers. Selection of proposals will be based on criteria such as the theme for the 2025 meeting, topics presented in previous years, and the potential advancement of a diverse and inclusive professional discipline consistent with the AAPM Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Goal. Not all proposals will be accepted, and some proposals may be combined or re-categorized as deemed necessary by the Annual Meeting Subcommittee.
Accepted submissions will be informed of their acceptance in December 2024. Session Organizers of an accepted proposal will subsequently finalize and confirm the session speakers and will need to submit an abstract for inclusion in the 2025 Annual Meeting Program.
Regards,
2025 Annual Meeting Planning Committee
