2024 AAPM Annual Meeting & Exhibition (Los Angeles, CA) - RFP for Symposia
Symposia and Educational Courses are an important part of the meeting. Scientific symposia, panel discussions, courses, and workshops on emerging and practical topics provide members with valuable opportunities to learn and interact with peers and leaders of the field.
The Program Directors would like your input on possible Symposia and Educational Courses for our 2024 Annual Meeting & Exhibition (July 21 - 25) in Los Angeles, CA. These can be scientific, educational, or professional in nature:
- SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM: A scientific symposium is a topical session focusing on a current topic related to pioneering or state-of-the-art research and development of medical physics.
- Therapy Scientific Symposium
- Imaging Scientific Symposium
- Multi-Disciplinary Scientific Symposium (Topics include Data Science, Multi-Modality Imaging, Theranostics, or similar. Requires inclusion of speakers from both imaging and therapy physics programs.)
- SPECIALTY PROGRAM - Radiopharmaceuticals and Nuclear Medicine
- EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM: An education course or symposium is a topical session focusing on a current topic which may include foundational medical physics principles, clinically relevant practice updates, and emerging technologies.
- Therapy Education Course
- Imaging Education Course
- PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM: Professional symposia explore a broad range of topics including but not limited to leadership; business knowledge and skill development; management and operational practice; diversity, equity, and inclusion; teaching methods; workforce assessments; and personal career development.

- TECHNICAL EXHIBIT/VENDOR PROGRAM:
- Partners in Solutions (PinS) – This Continuing Education approved program offers a unique way for attendees to interact with and learn from our exhibitors. All sessions feature an educational, topic-specific presentation delivered by AAPM members followed by practical, application-specific presentations from our vendor partners.
- Educational Topic-Specific Guided Tours – Guided tours provide a new way for attendees to interact with vendors while earning Continuing Education credits. All sessions begin with a 30-minute educational presentation provided by AAPM members. Vendors will then provide detailed information about the topic-specific solution(s) they offer. It’s an interesting and fun way to get a comprehensive overview of commercially available solutions to address your clinical needs.
All AAPM members are encouraged to submit proposals, including members early in their medical physics careers.
Proposed panels should be diverse (race, gender, institution, discipline, career stage, etc.). We strongly encourage the participation of speakers, organizers, and session moderators from underrepresented minorities. Please note that your proposal is meant to serve as a suggested topic of interest, along with a recommended list of speakers.

The online application will request the following information for proposals:
- Type of session (see list above)
- Title
- General Topic Area (short paragraph; 250 words maximum)
- Vendor-marketed technology related to your session.**
- Have you ever organized a session at an AAPM meeting?
- Is this session proposed by a formal AAPM group (subcommittee, task group etc.)?
- Is this session proposed by a professional society other than AAPM?
- Learning Objectives
- Suggested Speakers and/or Moderators. (No more than one non-AAPM member speaker and preferred no more than one speaker from a given institution.)

All proposals will be reviewed by the Program Directors, who will make the final selection of topic, content, moderators, and speakers. Selection of proposals will be based on criteria such as the theme for the 2024 meeting, topics presented in previous years, quality of the submission, and the potential advancement of a diverse and inclusive professional discipline consistent with the AAPM Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Goal. Not all proposals will be accepted, and some proposals may be combined or re-categorized as deemed necessary by the Annual Meeting Subcommittee.
Accepted submissions will be informed of their acceptance in December 2023, and Session Organizers of an accepted proposal will need to submit an abstract for inclusion in the 2024 Annual Meeting Program.
