MOC/SAMs

Many AAPM members now require Maintenance of Certification (MOC) as defined by the American Board of Radiology (ABR). Completion of Self Assessment CE (SA-CE) per year is a requirement for the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) process as defined by the American Board of Radiology (ABR). Information regarding the MOC requirments can be found at What is MOC. SAMS are not required, but can be used to meet the (SA-CE) requirements. In order to earn SA-CE credit you are required to (1) verify your attendance at each SAMs session and (2) answer SAMs questions in the online evaluation. There is no pass/fail and you will not be graded on your responses.

How Do I Register for a Participation Device (PD) to be used for audience verification in SAMs sessions at the 2016 AAPM Annual Meeting?

  1. Pre-register for the meeting.  You will not be able to register for a PD after July 6 (there will be no on-site registration.)  Prior to July 6, if you have already registered for the meeting, but did not register for a PD, you can still add a PD by calling the registration call center.
NO DEADLINE DATE TO REGISTER FOR THE PARTICIPATION DEVICE (PD) NEEDED FOR THE SAMs PROGRAM; registration is still open. If you wish to add the PD to your registration at this time, please call the registration call center at 508-743-8511.
  2. During the registration process, you will be asked if you require Maintenance of Certification (MOC) as defined by ABR.  Say YES.

  3. You will be given the option to register for a Participation Device ($10 to rent the PD) to be used for verifying attendance at as many SAMs sessions as you attend).

  4. When you arrive at the Washington Convention Center to pick up your badge and program materials, you will be given a ticket for your Participation Device (PD).  Exchange your ticket for at the SAMs participation device activation counter.

  5. Go to the SAMs sessions of your choice.  Upon entering a designated SAM session, your attendance will automatically be verified via your PD. You must attend the entire SAM session to be eligible to obtain SAM credit.

  6. Unlike past years, the speaker will not ask interactive questions.  Instead, you will go online to the CEC evaluation to answer questions. There is no pass/fail and you will not be graded on your responses. The deadline to answer the SAMs questions is September 5, 2016 at 11:59 PM ET.

  7. Post meeting, AAPM post SAMs credits to the CME Gateway accounts of each SAM participant. The SAMs credits will pass through the CME Gateway to the ABR. Please sign onto the CME Gateway to view your SAMs credits.

  8. To earn credit you must complete the an online CEC evaluation for the SAMs session, including the SAMs questions. Internet terminals will be available on-site for this purpose. You may also use your own laptop phone or iPAD during, between or after sessions. Please note you will require your badge I.D. in order to complete the session survey.

  9. Learn more about the new SAMs process here.

Don't require Maintenance of Certification, but still want to sit in on a SAMs session?

No problem.  The sessions are open to everyone.  An audience response unit is not required to attend.
