Discover Old Montréal's history and charm as you explore its maze of
cobblestone lanes and the largest concentration of 17th, 18th
and 19th century buildings in North America. This remarkable
collection of architecture embodies a rich cultural heritage;
as home to North America's original explorers and traders each
street and building represents a page of history. Featured on
this guided tour are the beautiful restoration projects that
have revitalized the Old Port, City Hall, early marketplaces
and civic buildings, original financial district, historical
homes, churches and Place Jacques-Cartier, site of 17th century
skirmishes and now a centre of lively street life.
The program
will include a light gourmet lunch at Chez Queux, a lovely French
restaurant located on Place Jacques-Cartier in the heart of Old
Montréal. The fine cuisine is complemented by the décor
of exposed stone and brick walls juxtaposed with dark wood panelling,
beamed ceiling, softly lit Tiffany lamps and richly upholstered
chairs.
Following lunch, the afternoon continues with a guided
visit of the Pointe-à-Callière Archaeology Museum,
a fascinating marriage of history and high-tech, located on the
site where Montréal was founded over 350 years ago. Following
a short multi-media presentation highlighting Montréal's
early years as a colony in the New World, wander through the
extensive archaeological "digs" exposing the colony's
original foundations and structures dating back to the 17th century.
Holograms, inter-active displays and artefacts dating as far
back as 900 A.D. that were unearthed in Old Montréal illustrate
over 1,000 years of history.
At the conclusion of the tour return
with your guide, or remain in the historic quarter and explore
the boutiques, art galleries and handicrafts shops or relax in
one of the many European-style cafés and bistros. The
tour goes rain or shine. The pace of the tour is leisurely. Wear
comfortable walking shoes.
Price includes: licensed professional tour guide (1 per 20 guests), tour guide gratuity, entry fees
and guided visit of Pointe-à-Callière Archaeology
Museum, three course light gourmet lunch at Chez Queux, lunch
service gratuity, Maestro Plus co-ordination.

with lunch are on an individual basis.

Montréal's Botanical Garden, the second most important collection in the
world after London's Kew Garden, is internationally renowned
for its high quality and variety of plant life. Comprising 180
acres, the Botanical Garden features 26,000 species and variety
of flora, displayed in more than 30 garden settings and 10 exhibition
greenhouses. Highlights include the stunning display of prized
orchids (over 700 species) North America's largest and most elegant
bonsaï collection, the serenity and refined beauty of the
expansive Japanese garden and pavilion, not to mention the Ming
Dynasty inspired Chinese Garden, offering 16 landscapes covering
six acres, the largest display of its kind outside of Asia.
The visit to the Botanical Garden will commence with a 35 minute
commented tram tour of the Gardens, following which participants
will commence their free time visit of the theme gardens which
attracted their attention during the tram tour.
Originally constructed for the 1976 Summer Olympic Games, the Montréal Biodôme
is now an avant-garde "living" museum of environmental
science. A botanical garden, zoo and aquarium all rolled into
one, you'll wander at leisure through the Tropical Forest, the
Laurentian Forest, the St. Lawrence Marine Ecosystem and the
Polar World, four magnificent full-scale natural environments
complete with landscapes, waterfalls, rivers, flora and fauna
typical to the Americas. Showcasing over 19,000 birds, animals
and fish in their natural habitats, the Biodôme, as in
nature itself, offers wonderful surprises, from the lynx, racoons
and beavers of the Laurentian Forest, the crocodiles, parrots
and hummingbirds of the Tropical Forest to the penguins of the
Polar World.
The visit of the gardens will include an explanation
and history of the architecturally unique structures making up
the Olympic Park Complex, including the Olympic Village, the
Biodôme, the Swimming Complex, the Olympic Stadium and
the Olympic Park Tower, the tallest inclined structure in the
world.
