The symposium is organized every year by the Working Group on Funding and Grantsmanship (WGFG: http://www.aapm.org/org/structure/?committee_code=WGFG); one of the WG of the AAPM Research Committee.

For Year 2014, the main theme of this symposium is to introduce to the membership the NCI Cancer Imaging Program that fosters advances in in vivo medical imaging sciences through support of basic and applied research in cancer imaging as well as promotion of imaging in clinical trials in order to gain greater understanding of the pathways of cancer biology for the benefit of cancer patients and people at cancer risk.

NCI Initiatives in Image-Guided Interventions (30 min)

The second segment will highlight the NCI SBIR’s and STTR’s funding programs which have a great potential in moving innovative research into small businesses as a vehicle to help move these technologies forward and move them toward commercialization. This segment will be followed by inviting large corporations to the table to present their interest in research and partnerships with academic institution (Industrial Grants).

Bringing Medical Devices for Cancer to the Marketplace: The NCI Small Business Programs (30 min)

The last segment will focus on grant management, reporting and public access requirements which will be presented with the help from the Office of Extramural Research (OER). Proper award management and fiscal oversight are critical to maintaining scientific integrity and public trust in stewardship of federal funds.
