This Presidential Symposium is designed to show how the diverse aspects of the varied roles of the medical physicist serve to Connect our Pathways and Unify our Profession. The roles and value of the medical physicist in the clinical function and research programs in Diagnostic Imaging, Radiation Oncology, and Industry will be highlighted by leaders in the three fields. The ever increasing role of imaging in radiation oncology for treatment localization and verification of field placement accuracy is only possible with developments by medical physicists both in the clinic and with our industry leaders.

The use of CT localization and now both PET and MRI imaging are being incorporated as part of the radiation treatment process. The ability of physicists working in industry to develop these techniques along with the engineers needed to execute these developments are allowing these new and improved methodologies of providing real-time imaging and verification of the accuracy of treatments is truly a combination of the pathways of imaging and therapeutic physicists. The emergence from industrial developments to use in the clinic is connecting all of our pathways to deliver the best possible treatments for our patients.

The presentations will highlight the developments and roles for each phase of bringing a new development by industry to clinical usage.
