  • AAPM Global Medical Physics Career Path Survey
In light of the growing importance of global health in the realm of medical physics, it is essential to assess the viewpoints of practicing medical physicists, trainees, residency program directors, and departmental leaders supporting physicists in this expanding academic field. We aim to gauge the emphasis placed on training, research, and support for both trainees and practicing physicists by institutions at the forefront of this field. It is crucial for medical physicists to cultivate a deeper understanding within our own community regarding the interest and involvement in global health. We cordially invite you to take part in the survey being conducted by the Global Needs Assessment Committee within the AAPM International Council.

RO-ILS Releases New Themed Report on Rushing: The latest RO-ILS education is a detailed exploration of where rushing and/or scheduling contributed to events being reported to the program since 2014. The new RO-ILS Themed Report contains aggregate analysis comparing rushing and non-rushing cohorts in the database, four case examples, and mitigation strategies. The findings related to problem type, treatment techniques, contributing factors, and more can inform areas requiring additional focus and improvement activities so don’t miss reading this report!

    • AAPM Webinar Series on Global Research and Scientific Innovation Committee: School on Research Excellence
Topic: Securing Grants in Early Career
Synopsis: This webinar is presented by AAPM’s Global Research and Scientific Innovation Committee (GRSIC) and the Global Early Career Research Subcommittee (GECRSC). Successful senior, mid-career, and early career academic medical physicists from around the world will share their experiences surrounding grant funding. Our early-career speakers are participating as part of the Global Rising Stars program, which aims to highlight and champion early career researchers and global research collaboration & initiatives. In this webinar, speakers will introduce their academic career pathways and discuss their insights and advice into successfully acquiring research funding early in their careers. This session will include a panel Q&A discussion where the audience is invited to ask their own questions surrounding early career research funding.
Speakers/Panelists: Tess Reynolds, Grace Gang, Martin Fast, Konrad Nesteruk

    • Webinar #38 | AAPM Webinar Series on Advances in Medical Physics
Topic: Dosimetry and Imaging Response to Optimize Use of Targeted Radiopharmaceutical Therapies
Synopsis: Radiopharmaceutical therapies are increasingly impacting the clinical care of patients with metastatic cancers, with multiple agents demonstrating an ability to improve survival across several cancers. Radiopharmaceutical therapies are unique in that they can be imaged, and are thus often termed theranostic (therapeutic and diagnostic). The theranostic nature of these agents can be leveraged in several important ways to personalize therapy for cancer patients, including as a means to calculate absorbed radiation doses delivered to tumors and organs at risk, and as a means to monitor treatment response. This talk will focus on the clinical advances in radiopharmaceutical dosimetry and imaging response assessment of these therapies, and the implications of these advances for clinical research, clinical trials, and practice.
      Speaker: John Floberg

  • AAPM Supports AIP DEIBA Strategy
To spur collaboration and advance goals towards achieving diversity, AIP’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, & Accessibility (DEIBA) Strategic Plan addresses the continued under-representation of racial and ethnic minorities, women, LGBTQ+ people, and people with disabilities in STEM. It represents the collective thinking of the AIP Federation/Member Societies - including AAPM - and builds upon AIP’s existing programmatic efforts to improve diversity and create a culture of inclusion and belonging.
