- AAPM Webinar Series on Scientific Excellence and Global Rising Stars
Topic: Open-Source Resources in Medical Physics
Synopsis: In the rapidly evolving field of medical physics, open-source resources are becoming an essential tool for innovation and progress. This AAPM Global Research and Scientific Innovation Committee (GRSIC) Webinar, hosted in collaboration with the International Organization of Medical Physicists (IOMP), brings together a panel of research excellence and Global Rising Stars (GRS) in the fields of medical physics, providing unique insights and expertise on the use of open-source resources, including various data and tools in medical physics. A second webinar will be hosted by IOMP in July – more details coming soon. Our speakers will highlight how open-source resources advance accessible access to comprehensive datasets and advanced tools to foster global collaboration and fuel innovation within and beyond their own institutions. Our speakers will share real-world cases where these resources have led to groundbreaking solutions and ethical research practices. They will showcase the transformative potential of open-source in Medical Physics and its role in shaping a collaborative and innovative future as established and next-generation rising stars.

A Medical Physics Guide to Sexual and Gender Minority Health & Well-Being: Part 1
Synopsis: In this webinar hosted by the Sexual and Gender Minority Subcommittee (SGMSC), the ADDRESSING framework will be introduced to the Medical Physics community. The ADDRESSING framework is a peer-reviewed and foundational cultural competency, self-assessment tool used in the fields of Clinical Psychology and Psychiatry to create a sense of belonging and trust between patient and providers and provide healthcare professionals with the tools to connect across differences relating to ethnicity, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, disability, age, gender, and class. The SGMSC will demonstrate how the ADDRESSING framework can be used in the field of Medical Physics as a tool to connect peer to peer, mentee to mentor, employee to manager, patient to physicist, etc. The webinar will also include anonymized LGBTQIA+ anecdotes demonstrating the need and value of inclusivity within Medical Physics as well as a presentation on Creating Belonging Through Mentorship. The webinar will conclude with Navigating Medical Physics as a Student/Trainee. There will also be a Q&A at the end of the webinar. We are excited to provide the Medical Physics community with tools to relate to LGBTQIA+ students, trainees, faculty, staff, and patients and aid in fostering a sense of inclusion and belonging within our field.
Speakers: Danielle Key, Destinee Holloman, Nicholas Marsh, Alexis Sanwick, Michalis Aristophanous, Victoria Ainsworth, Jessica Vadas
