    • AAPM Webinar Series on Advances in Medical Physics
Topic: Development of the Next Generation Robotic Radiotherapy
Synopsis: Traditionally, radiotherapy planning and delivery heavily depend on human operators, creating inconsistencies, inefficiencies, and inaccuracies. The recent introduction of Artificial Intelligence has shown the potential of automating radiotherapy, but the potential cannot be fully executed without robotics. Early generations of robotic radiotherapy were instrumental in advanced techniques, including SBRT and tumor tracking, but the impact has been limited in scale. With new algorithms and designs, the application of robotic radiotherapy can and should be substantially expanded. A new generation of robotic radiotherapy has been developed based on solving ultra-large-scale optimization problems and a more flexible robotic architecture, which opens up new therapy and imaging capabilities. The talk will describe key elements of the new platform and relevant research and clinical opportunities.
