- Topic: AAPM Webinar on A Day in the Life of Medical Physicists in Africa
Synopsis: This webinar will focus on a day in the life of medical physicists in Low-and-Middle Income Countries (LMICs) in Africa with the aim of providing valuable information to the AAPM membership interested in global health outreach or research activities. The information will also allow us as an organization to tailor our support and initiatives to address unique challenges and opportunities in LMICs in Africa. The webinar will provide insight into the current healthcare infrastructure, gaps in resource allocation, quality of care, the contribution of physics to patient care, and barriers that affect patients’ access to care.
Speakers: Abigail Quaye, Loreh Peter, Samuel Adeneye

- Webinar #36 | AAPM Webinar Series on Advances in Medical Physics
Topic: Total-Body PET: History and Future
Synopsis: The first hints of the total body PET concept appeared in the early 1990s when Terry Jones described a long axial field of view PET scanner that could perform dynamic scanning on multiple organs at once. However, the technology of the time was inadequate to match the scale of the problem. Although a number of progressively longer PET scanners were designed, it was not until 2018 that the first total-body PET scanner was built. The marriage of this concept together with progressive improvements in PET detector technology promises a bright future, both in research and in clinical application.
