Submit your abstract to be considered for presentation at the 55th AAPM Annual Meeting & Exhibition. The submission deadline is 5pm Eastern Time on February 28, 2013. There will be NO EXTENSION OF THIS DEADLINE. Authors must submit their abstracts by this time to be considered for review.

Call for applications: Editors for Therapy and Imaging Physics for the journal Medical Physics
Effective January 1, 2014, Jeffrey Williamson, Ph.D. will succeed William Hendee, Ph.D., as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Medical Physics. Under the new structure established by the AAPM Board of Directors, the Editor-in-Chief will share responsibility for managing the Journal content and its editorial direction with two additional Editors: the Therapy Physics Editor and the Imaging Physics Editor. A search committee established by the Editorial Board is now seeking applications from qualified individuals to assume these positions. Apply now.

An unanticipated provision in the congressional budget bill addressing the U.S. "fiscal cliff" included a financial and competitive advantage for radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems, according to a recent Wall Street Journal article.

Obama Renominates Tavenner to lead Medicare Agency
President Obama recently renominated Marilyn Tavenner to one of the top healthcare posts in the administration. It’s the second time Obama has nominated Tavenner to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the agency that oversees Medicare, Medicaid and most of the implementation of President Obama’s signature healthcare law.

On January 31, 2013, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the health care organizations selected to participate in the Bundled Payments for Care Improvement initiative, an innovative new payment model. Under the Bundled Payments for Care Improvement initiative, organizations will enter into payment arrangements that include financial and performance accountability for episodes of care. These models may lead to higher quality, more coordinated care at a lower cost to Medicare.
