Important notices, upcoming deadlines, and events happening in the Medical Physics community.

  • International Symposium on Radiation Exposure Monitoring in Medical Imaging to be held June 11-13 2026 in Sofia, Bulgaria
The goal of the symposium is reflected in its motto: “Enhanced patient care through effective data management”. The program will cover current advancements and future directions in radiation exposure monitoring in medical imaging. The focus will be on automation, connectivity, integration of digital exposure monitoring with other healthcare electronic systems, and related analytics and implementation aspects. The spectrum of analytical uses of exposure data will be discussed, and related IT solutions for effective data management at the level of individual patients, healthcare facilities, nationally or internationally. The symposium will be a platform for sharing experiences, solutions and ideas for streamlining the digital exposure data collection and its effective use. The scope is multidisciplinary, aimed at a broad audience of professionals including imaging physicians, medical physicists, IT specialists, engineers, radiographers, health and radiation protection authorities, manufacturers, patient organizations, and risk communication specialists. • AAPM NEEDS YOUR VOICE: PROTECT THE FUTURE OF MEDICAL PHYSICS
A recent Executive Order (EO) introducing heightened political oversight of federal grantmaking, along with ongoing workforce pressures, have created new uncertainty for science, research, and patient care. These proposed policy changes could have far-reaching consequences for the research community and the future of America’s role as a leader of global medical innovation.

We have added a new letter-writing campaign in response to this EO and we urge you to visit AAPM’s TAKE ACTION CENTER to:

    • Send letters to elected officials asking them to preserve fair, science-based review of federal research funding and to protect the stability of the medical physics workforce. Our Take Action Center provides specific template letters you can customize, if you wish.

    • Highlight the impact of proposed Visa rule changes to international students and postdocs, given proposed changes making it harder for F-1 and J-1 Visa holders to pursue education and careers in the U.S. We have linked to information and an anonymous survey conducted by our peer society, the American Physical Society.

    • Share your story privately with AAPM via our survey - your firsthand insight will guide our Government Relations Team’s efforts and ensure lawmakers understand what’s really at stake for medical physicists and the communities we serve.

Your perspective matters. By sharing your experiences and participating in these campaigns, you help demonstrate the real-world impact of these changes on research, innovation, and patient outcomes!
