Activities
  1. Determine a basic curriculum on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to benefit all medical physicists, imaging and therapy, with an initial priority on education related to clinical procedures and devices, to insure patient safety for medical physics practitioners in clinical environments.
    • Consider the use of didactic and practicum components for each topic, providing a set of educational material that enables additional training for higher level expertise to be implemented at a later time.
    • A fundamental level of skills in computer programing should be assumed as a prerequisite, such that any individual with beginning or modest programming skills could complete the AI Boot Camp.
  2. Leverage existing AAPM-member AI material from experts and educators, such as summer school, review courses, special AI meetings, etc, to enable an efficient creation of relevant curriculum for the AI Boot Camp.
  3. Propose the best method for implementing the curriculum, with the initial assumption that on-line, self-paced modules may be used. Consider existing models for on-line AI learning, including university and peer association approaches.
  4. Define a credentialing mechanism such as a “Certificate” or “Credit” to provide visible value to the individual physicist for their workplace setting. AAPM may provide this certificate, such as completing a summer school or review course. Credentialing exists for on-line informatics and AI modules with peer associations.
  5. With the aid of Finance Committee, Meetings Committees and AAPM HQ Staff, propose a fee structure for AAPM members and non-members for the AI Boot Camps.
