MO-F-702-0 (Monday, July 31, 2017) 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM Room: 702

At AAPM 2017, it will have been 9 years since the International Electrotechnical Commission published IEC 62494-1, yet implementation of the exposure indicator (EI) standard is incomplete and radiography practices have little guidance on how to set target EI values or review their deviation index (DI) data and act on the data to drive quality improvement. With the recent publication of the report of AAPM Task Group 232: Current State of Practice Regarding Digital Radiography Exposure Indicators and Deviation Indices, it is time for radiography practices to begin to use these data to improve the quality of their operations.

This session will provide a comprehensive look at the state of the EI in digital radiography, including a review of data from clinical practice and strategies for setting target EI values.

Learning Objectives:
1. Review the current implementation status of the IEC EI standard.
2. Analyze the distribution of the DI in clinical practice.
3. Discuss strategies for setting target EI values.
