This course covers the essential knowledge of MR image processing, registration and planning that are commonly occur in radiation oncology applications. Strategies and example illustrations will be discussed with an emphasis on brain, abdominal, and gynecological cancer applications. Extra attention will be given to the special considerations of radiotherapy, including motion management, geometric accuracy, registration uncertainties, MRI-based dose calculation, etc. Novel MRI processing and planning techniques will be introduced and their potential clinical impact will be discussed. The course should provide the attendees a clear yet comprehensive review of the common MR processing techniques used in radiotherapy.

This is part of a multi-part educational course on the role of MRI in radiation therapy, intended to offer comprehensive and focused education to both imaging and therapy physicists who are not able to attend other meetings (such as ISMRM) and who may have missed the MRgRT certificate course offered previously. Coordinated sessions are being proposed for the Imaging Education, Therapy Education, Professional, and Practical programs for the 2017 annual meeting. The MR Subcommittee, Task Group 117, and the Imaging For Treatment Assessment Working Group are jointly proposing this group of sessions.

Learning Objectives:
1. Learn the challenges of MR image processing in radiotherapy and the common strategies and techniques to address the challenges.
2. Understand the various uncertainties in MR image processing, registration and MR-based treatment planning.
3. Discuss the limitations of current MR image processing and planning techniques and the promises of novel MR techniques.
