  1. Members who have served the AAPM in one of the following capacities
    1. AAPM President
    2. Coolidge Award Winner
    3. Journal Editor in Chief
    4. Nobel Laureate
  2. Will be honored via one of the following:
    1. Memorial Symposium - Upon the recommendation of the Awards and Honors Committee, and concurrence of the Meeting Coordination Committee a symposium session at the Annual Meeting will be identified for the honoring of the deceased member.

      The symposium will be comprised of a memorial lecture and (optionally) other presentations (invited or proffered).

      When such a session is planned, the family of the memorialized person will receive a detailed letter describing the honor.

      A plaque will be awarded to the family of the memorialized person at the Awards and Honors Ceremony during the Annual Meeting.

      Travel expenses for a non-AAPM member memorial lecturer to be reimbursed as per AP-23;
      • Invited Speakers (non-AAPM members) - Registration complimentary. Hotel room, transportation, and /or honoraria may be paid as determined by the appropriate program director.
      Travel expenses for the immediate family of the memorialized person to be reimbursed as per AP-23;
      • Family of Memorialized Party (spouse and immediate family) - Hotel room(s), transportation, and meals paid. Registration complimentary, including social events.
      When a Memorial Symposium session is to be dedicated as honoring a deceased member at the Annual Meeting, the following procedures will be followed with respect to the meeting program:
      • Chair of A&H informs Meeting Coordination Committee and Program Subcommittee chairs of the proposed honor. The deadline to designate a Memorial Symposium session is no later than November in the year preceding the annual meeting. If after this date, the request will be considered for the next Annual Meeting.
      • A&H and Program Subcommittee Chairs will identify session type (scientific, educational, or professional) for the symposium.
      • A&H Committee will identify the symposium memorial lecturer.
      • Program Subcommittee Chairs will notify the Program Directors of the proposed honor for concurrence and session timeslot selection.
      • HQ to be informed of the honor and session selection.
      • Memorial lecturer to submit explanatory paragraph(s) describing the honoree per the abstract submission system.
      • HQ to obtain photo of deceased member and assure submission of explanatory paragraph.
      • HQ to inform designated moderator of session of the honor, provide instructions, and make image available for display.
      • At beginning of session, moderator to introduce the photo of the honoree and memorial lecturer.
      • The printed program will identify the session as named in the honor of the honoree. The explanatory paragraph(s) will be included in the printed program.
    2. Session In Memory Of - Upon the recommendation of the Awards and Honors committee, and concurrence of the Meeting Coordination Committee, a scientific, educational, or professional session at the Annual Meeting will be designated as honoring the deceased member.

      When such a session is planned, the family of the memorialized person will receive a detailed letter describing the honor.

      A plaque will be awarded to the family of the memorialized person at the Awards and Honors Ceremony during the Annual Meeting.

      Travel expenses for the immediate family of the memorialized person will be reimbursed as per AP-23;
      • Family of Memorialized Party (spouse and immediate family) - Hotel room(s), transportation, and meals paid. Registration complimentary, including social events.
      When a Session in Memory Of is to be dedicated as honoring a deceased member at the Annual Meeting, the following procedures will be followed with respect to the meeting program:
      • Chair of A&H to informs Meeting Coordination Committee and Program Subcommittee chairs of the proposed honor. The deadline to designate a Session In Memory Of for the annual meeting is April 1 or one month before camera-ready copy of the program is due (whichever is earlier).
      • A&H and Program Subcommittee Chairs will identify the session type (scientific, educational, or professional).
      • Program Subcommittee Chairs will notify the Program Directors of the proposed honor for concurrence and session timeslot selection.
      • A&H will provide 1-2 paragraph(s) describing the honoree and an image of the honoree or identify a source to be asked for such.
      • HQ to be informed of the honor and session selection.
      • HQ will obtain photo of deceased member and assure submission of explanatory paragraph.
      • HQ will inform designated chair of session of the honor, provide instructions and paragraph, make image available for display.
      • At beginning of session, moderator will introduce the photo of the honoree and read the paragraph explaining why the person is so honored.
      • The printed program will identify the session as named in the honor of the honoree. The paragraph(s) explaining the honor will not be included in the printed program.
  3. Other members of AAPM not meeting the above criteria may also be awarded as described above upon the decision of either the Awards and Honors Committee, EXCOM, or the Board.


  4. When award winners are announced for the AAPM Annual Meeting, headquarters will include a list of recently deceased members in the next newsletter and request members notify the headquarters office of additional names that should be added. These names will then be included in the Awards and Honors Ceremony.
