The use of MRI is rapidly expanding in Radiation Therapy. Yet, few therapy physicists are aware of the professional and safety requirements for working with this modality.

This session is aimed at providing the practicing Therapeutic Medical Physicist with practical information to function as a resource on pertinent clinical MRI Safety engineering, administrative, and procedural controls, as well as relevant accreditation topics.

This presentation will also discuss the physicist's role in MR image quality assessment. The American Board of Medical Physics program for Certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging Physics will be appraised. Specific quality control measures and artifact analysis on MR scanners will be recapped with examples.

Learning Objectives:
1. Understand the various components of a quality MRI safety program.
2. Understand the areas of competency, educational opportunities and credentialing programs for the application of radiation therapy physics in MRI physics.
3. Understand the issues related with the use of MRI in treatment planning, simulation, treatment guidance, and treatment assessment.
