TU-FG-FS4-0 (Tuesday, August 1, 2017) 1:45 PM - 3:45 PM Room: Four Seasons 4

MRI guided radiation therapy presents an exciting new era in Radiation Therapy, where improved soft-tissue target delineation has been integrated with sophisticated treatment planning and delivery. This session will focus on the clinical, scientific, and technical aspects of MRI guided radiation therapy. Multiple vendors are now creating and presenting MRI guided radiation therapy systems; three speakers with hands-on experience with these systems will describe the technologies and how they’ve been designed to optimize each step of the process. The first presentation will address how MRI hardware and pulse sequences can be optimized for Radiation Therapy. Specifications, clinical requirements, and common use cases of MRI guidance in a real-time radiation delivery system will be presented. Similarly, the optimization of Radiation Therapy hardware, treatment planning strategies, and dose verification procedures during real-time MRI guidance will be described. Finally, the clinical indications for and applications of MRI guided radiation therapy will be presented by a Radiation Oncologist who has used MRI guided radiation therapy clinically since 2014. Novel changes in patient’s anatomy, respiratory patterns, organ filling and relative proximity will be shown, all of which provide unique opportunities to improve the quality of radiation therapy.

Learning Objectives:
1. Optimization of MRI for Radiation Therapy
2. Optimization of Radiation Therapy for MRI
3. Clinical indications for MRI guided radiation therapy targeting, motion management, and on-line adaptation
